One of my favorite themes we did for our Youth Group was “focus.” We did this theme for about a month and had a lot of fun with it. One of the youth group game I enjoyed most was the one we called the “Loud Leading the Blind.” It is super easy to set up and very interactive.
Purpose
In this game, the leader of each group have to give instructions to their team members on how to find a container and place an object into it. The team members are blindfolded. Since there are multiple teams, it becomes difficult as there are a lot of instructions being yelled out.
The purpose of this youth group game is to promote team work and listening skills. Some good themes of discussion to pair with this game include: focus, listening, discernment, and relying on others. This game works well for any amount of youth as you can split them into as many groups as necessary.
Setup and Equipment
Our recommendation is to split teams up so that there are no more than four youth per team. This allows for more teams. The equipment needed include:
- Blindfolds for each of the non-leader members of each group
- One object for each of the non-leader members
- Containers for each of the non-leader members
Things to Think About
We recommend using a different color blindfold for each group. Make sure you have enough containers and objects for how ever many youth are blindfolded. We recommend color coordinating the containers with the color of blindfold so the leaders know where to instruct their team members. An easy container method is taking brown paper bags and coloring the matching color onto to the bag. Use random objects to make it fun. We used some random squishy balls and random objects from Family Dollar. Make sure to have enough prepared in case you have more youth show up than expected!
Youth Group Game Instructions
Split the youth into groups. We recommend about 4-5 per team. Teams will pick a leader. The rest of the members will be blindfolded. Their task is to get their object into one of their teams containers. Only one object is allowed per container, so everybody has to find a different one. The team members will find the containers by listening to directions being shouted by the leader. First team to get all of their objects into a different bag wins!
Discussion Questions
Lead discussion to address how it can be difficult to listen to God when there is a lot to pay attention to.
- When all the leaders were shouting directions, what happened to those that were blindfolded?
- While blindfolded, what are some things that helped or made it harder?
- As the leader, what are some things that helped or made it harder?
- How can you relate this to your relationship with God?
